Frequently Asked Questions
Here are a collection of some of the most frequently asked questions, but if you don't find the answer your looking for here please feel free to contact us.

WHAT IS THE GOOD TENANTS’ SCHEME?
The Good Tenants’ Scheme is a free referencing service provided by Accent Regeneration Ltd.

WHO DO YOU REFERENCE WITH?
We request references from the Police, Burnley Borough Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team, Calico Housing Ltd. We also reference 3 years’ rehousing history.
Where the applicant has not previously held their own tenancy we ask for a character reference from an employer, previous employer or a non family member that knows them well.

WHY DOES MY PARTNER/ CHILD OVER 18 ALSO HAVE TO COMPLETE A FORM?
This is because:

Rehousing history may be different for each person.

Every applicant needs to sign a separate consent form, which allows the Good Tenants’ Scheme to carry out reference checks. Failing to sign the consent form means that the application will not be processed.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO PROCESS MY APPLICATION?
The initial referencing process will be completed in a maximum of 14 days. If the application form is incomplete then the process may take longer. Applicants can contact the office during working hours to check on the progress of their application.

HOW WILL I KNOW IF I HAVE PASSED?
The scheme will either telephone you or send a contact card to inform all successful applicants. We will ask you to come into the office and have your photo taken for your membership pass.

WHY DO I HAVE TO HAVE MY PHOTO TAKEN?
The Good Tenants’ Scheme issues all successful applicants with a credit card sized accreditation ‘passport’ containing their photo, membership number and start and expiry dates of the accreditation period. This is so those accredited tenants can prove to the landlord that they have passed the reference checks.

WHAT CAN I USE THIS PASSPORT FOR?
The Good Tenants’ passport can be used to access the Open Doors Furniture Recycling Resource Centre. It can also be taken along to viewings to prove to potential landlords that all the reference checks have been passed.

RENEWING MY MEMBERSHIP PASSPORT?
Please contact the Good Tenants’ Scheme to renew your passport. We will then recheck with the Police, Burnley Borough Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team and your current housing provider for your recent housing history. If the references are acceptable then your membership will be renewed for either six or twelve months.

WHAT SHOULD I DO WHEN I MOVE HOUSE?
Please inform the Good Tenants’ Scheme as soon as you move into your new accommodation, in order for the scheme to update your records and contact you with any information regarding the Good Tenants’ Scheme.
